Google SERP Preview Tool

Type your title tag, meta description and page address, and see a desktop and mobile preview of the Google result before you publish.

Short answer

The Google SERP preview is a free tool that shows how your title tag and meta description may look in search results on desktop and mobile. It measures text in pixels rather than only characters, warns you when the end is likely to be cut, and includes a URL slug generator. It runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent or stored.

What does a Google result preview show?

A result preview shows the three parts of a Google listing that you control: the clickable title, the address line and the description underneath. Seeing them together before you publish helps you catch a headline that is cut off, a description that is too thin, or an address that looks messy.

This tool draws two cards from your own text, one for desktop and one for a phone about 375 px wide. It is a close approximation, not a copy of Google's live design, which changes from time to time.

How long can a title tag and meta description be?

Google sets no fixed character limit; it cuts text to fit the width of the device. In practice a title of roughly 50 to 60 characters and a description of roughly 140 to 160 characters usually fit on desktop, but the real limit is width, so capital letters, wide letters and Arabic script change the count.

ElementWidth used by this toolUsual character rangeIf too long
Title tagabout 600 px50 to 60The end is replaced by an ellipsis
Meta descriptionabout 920 px140 to 160The end is trimmed

These widths are working rules of thumb used across SEO tools. Google does not publish them, so treat the bars as a guide.

How to use the preview, step by step

  1. Type your title tag and put the phrase people search for near the start.
  2. Add the meta description. Say what the page offers and end with a next step, such as booking on WhatsApp.
  3. Enter the page address and site name so the card looks like your real listing.
  4. Read the bars and the status text. A red bar means the end will be cut.
  5. Check the mobile card, where the title wraps over two lines and the description over about three.
  6. Copy the ready-made HTML tags into your page or CMS.

Why does Google sometimes show a different title or description?

Google treats your title and description as suggestions, so it may rewrite them. Its documentation says it can build a title from on-page text or links when the title seems missing, repeated across pages, or unrelated to the page, and it may take the snippet from the page itself when that describes the page better.

  • Give every page its own title.
  • Keep the title consistent with the visible main heading.
  • Write Arabic pages with Arabic titles: a title in a different language or script from the page is one reason Google may replace it.
  • Do not stuff keywords; it reads badly and invites rewrites.

A preview cannot predict rankings or click rates. It only checks how your text is likely to be displayed.

How do I write a clean URL slug?

A slug is the last part of a page address, such as dental-implants in example.ae/services/dental-implants. Keep it short, lower case, with hyphens between words and no accents or symbols.

  • Use the words people would search for, not the whole headline.
  • Do not change the slug of a live page without redirecting the old address.
  • Arabic slugs are possible, but they are shown percent-encoded when copied, so many sites use a short English or transliterated slug. Tick the Arabic option in the tool to compare.

Frequently asked questions

How many characters should a title tag be?

Aim for roughly 50 to 60 characters, but let the width bar decide. Google cuts titles to fit the device width, so a title in capitals or with wide letters can be cut sooner than a longer lower-case one. Put the most important words first so a cut loses the least.

Does this tool send my text anywhere?

No. The preview and the pixel measurement run in your browser using a canvas element, and the slug and HTML tags are built locally too. Nothing you type is uploaded, logged or stored, and the page makes no network requests with your input.

Why does Google show something different from my preview?

Google may rewrite titles and pick snippet text that matches the search, and its layout changes over time. The preview shows your text under typical conditions, so use it to avoid obvious problems such as cut-off headlines, not to predict every result.

Does the meta description help me rank higher?

It shapes the snippet people read before they click, and Google may use it when it describes the page well. Treat it as persuasive copy for people rather than a ranking lever, and make it specific: what the page offers and what to do next.

Can I preview Arabic titles and descriptions?

Yes. Arabic text is measured and shown right to left, and the card switches direction automatically. Fonts differ between devices, so widths are estimates. For Arabic pages, write the title and description in Arabic and keep the page address in Latin letters if you can.
